Kitty and the Boyz - Bio

Kitty and the Boyz,has been described as sharing something in common with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge and Journey.  The band members include:  Angela Penfound (vocals, tambourine), Steve Charlebois (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Chas Laurie (bass, vocals, mandolin, violin), Anthony Buffone (keyboards, vocals), Rob Walker (drums).  Lead singer Angela Penfound (a.k.a. Kitty) is the daughter of Jerry Penfound, an original member of the Band who spent many years alongside Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks.  Kitty started singing in her school choir, but didn’t begin performing until the mid 90s with the pop/rock band Cherry Pop.  A few years later, she went on to play with Angelfire, then Champagne Kitty before eventually joining Kitty and the Boyz in 2007.  Local guitarist and vocalist Steve Charlebois, born and raised in Midland and began playing guitar in the basement of Johnstones Musicland at a very young age.  Steve has been involved in the local music scene for the past 35 years.  Bassist and vocalist Chas Laurie has played with various artists and bands in the Greater Toronto Area.  Chas toured Canada with Wild T and The Spirit, Kenny Maclean, worked a 4 month stint in Dubai w/ Robbie Rae. He has opened for - Suzi Quatro, Chaka Kahn and Deep Purple.  Chas now lives in Midland and has been with Kitty and the Boyz since 2013.  Keyboardist and vocalist Anthony Buffone, began playing in local bands in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in the late 80’s.  After moving to Barrie in 1998, Anthony played with a local blues band "Little Avenue" and shortly thereafter joined forces with Steve Charlebois and Dave Wright in 1999 as “Banjo and the Boys” before eventually forming "Kitty and the Boyz" in 2007.  Drummer Rob Walker was born & raised in Victoria Harbour, ON. A self-taught drummer, he got his first kit at the age of 10 & would spend his free time playing along to songs by CCR, The Beatles, AC/DC & others. Before joining Kitty & The Boyz in 2022, Rob played in "The Jaclyn Serre Duo," the party-rock group "New Rule" out of Bradford and "The Addiction"- a Toronto-based Canadian rock cover band.
